VIDEORECIPE Homemade tomato sauce recipe
Although this is a recipe that takes a little while to make, it can be bottled and can last for months and months in the freezer. It has few ingredients, is very easy to make and has nothing to envy the commercial one.
- 2 kg crushed tomatoes
- 1 onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 green bell pepper
- 1 tablespoon sweet paprika
- 1 pinch sugar
- Dried oregano or fresh basil
- salt and pepper
- olive oil
In a high casserole or pot, heat a dash of olive oil over a low heat.
Add the finely chopped onion, green pepper and garlic. Season with salt and pepper and cook both ingredients for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
Add the crushed tomato.
Add the spoonful of paprika and a pinch of sugar, to eliminate the excess acidity of the tomato and the spices.
Cover and cook over low heat for about an hour.
When the tomato sauce has thickened a little and the flavours have concentrated, adjust the salt.
If you don't want to find any bits of vegetable, you can grind it all up. Otherwise, you can leave it as it is.
Serve immediately or store in jars in the fridge.
