1. Step

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This is a very important step as baking at the right temperature results in the perfect crispy crumble.

2. Step

In a large bowl, combine the mulberries with sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Mix until the berries are well-coated. The cornstarch helps to thicken the fruit juices as they cook, preventing your crumble from becoming too soggy.

3. Step

Transfer the berry mixture into a greased pie dish or any baking dish you have on hand.

In another bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon for the crumble. Add the cold, cubed butter and rub it with the dry ingredients using your fingers until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. It's crucial the butter is cold so that it doesn't absorb the flour and oats, and rather coats them which help the crumble to become crispy during baking.

5. Step

Sprinkle this mixture over the berries, ensuring it’s evenly distributed.

6. Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crumbs on top are golden brown and the berry juices are bubbling. The longer bake time makes sure the oats are properly cooked and the flavors permeate through the dish.

Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
